Its sturdy plastic components in gray, black, and gold, three colored crystals, and telescoping blade can be combined in over 1000 different ways to create a customized battle weapon. You'll need a Philips head screwdriver to insert three AA batteries (not included), and you may want to help young users put the color crystals in the first time around, so they know how to change them later on. One of this light saber's top features is the way it emits different sounds along with a different color light inside the clear plastic blade depending on what Ilum crystal or crystals are inserted in the handle. Star Wars fans will immediately recognize the powerful humming noise that indicates a light saber ready for combat. I bought this for both my 5-year old nephew and my 6-year old son and they both are enjoying it very much. My son says it's "awesome!" We have only put it together once so far and it appears as though it may be too troublesome to take it apart and make it a new way so we are leaving it the way it was first put together. The kids like the way it makes sounds and lights up in different colors. It was easy to assemble but we did forget that it needed batteries. A great toy for any Star Wars lover!

I was reluctant to buy this even though my 7 year old has been asking for at least a year. We have probably 5 other light sabers and I didn't think this would really entertain him for long. Boy was I wrong! This was the first thing he opened and couldn't wait to put one together. He didn't even care there weren't batteries. He especially loved being able to change the color of the light saber. There is only 1 light saber to put together but the options are endless. A must for your Star Wars fan!

I bought two of these light sabers for my 6 & 7 yr. old grandsons for Christmas and they absolutely love them. The older boys, aged 12 & 14 liked them just as much and now they want one also. They have been playing with them almost constantly, changing the configurations and having light saber duels almost since they got them. They did need help assembling them at first. So, an adult or older boy helped assemble them for the younger boys at first, but once they saw how and got the hang of it, they can now do most of it themselves. All the kids, and some of the dads, have enjoyed playing with them. One light saber is fun, but it's even more fun when there are two or more so they can have dueling battles. It's fun and a very versatile, well made and durable toy. So, I would definitely recommend this toy for boys young and old alike.
